It's finally winter and that means its time to hit the slopes! Colorado and the west are often the most visited ski areas, but skiing the east coast has just as many great ski resort options as well! Here are some great mountains and resorts where you can ski the east coast this winter season!

  • Shawnee Peak in Maine, United States

      This Maine ski area is a bit smaller, and tends to be more of a locals mountain, but it has some great trails! The view from the top of the mountain is of Moose Pond and other lakes in the area.

  • Smugglers' Notch Resort, United States

      I spent a lot of my college winters at Smuggles' Notch. This resort has 3 different mountains for all different skill levels. In addition to great skiing and snowboarding, Smugglers' Notch has an interesting history where English goods were brought into the US from Canada via the Long Trail and Smugglers' Notch Pass during the embargo in the early 1800's.

      Stowe Mountain is one of the many located in northern Vermont. They have so many trails, you could spend the whole weekend here and still not be able to ski them all!

  • Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort in New York, United States

      A list about skiing the east coast would not be complete without Whiteface Mountain. Located in Lake Placid, hit the slopes where the downhill skiing events took place during the 1980 Winter Olympic Games.

      Canaan Valley is a great year round destination with hiking and camping in the spring and summer to skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. Located a couple hours south of Pennsylvania, Canaan Valley Resort is a great east coast ski destination for those that are a little far from upstate NY and New England.

      When you think about skiing on the east coast, the southern states aren't exactly on the top of people's lists. However this small mountain resort has some really fun trails, and a tubing park for those that don't ski or snowboard.

      Gore Mountain in the midst of the Adirondacks is a beautiful place to spend a day on the slopes! It's also close to Lake Placid and would be a great day trip from there for a winter getaway.

      "Mad River Glen, Ski it if you can". This ski area is filled with backcountry trails and is not for the inexperienced skier. If you're up for an adventure and looking to up your backcountry game, this is the place to be.

  • Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort, United States

      Jiminy Peak is a smaller mountain resort in western Massachusetts. It is a great place to come for the day. It is also where I learned to snowboard and can recommend their ski school programs. Jiminy is only about an hour from Albany, NY and within two hours of Bennington, VT so it is in a great location for many people.

      Hunter Mountain is a great place to hit the slopes in the Hudson Valley! With over 25 trails to explore there is something for beginners to experts! It is also within 2 hours of New York City so you can easily get away for a day.
