While you’re in Old San Juan, visit Catedral San Juan Bautista, the oldest cathedral in San Juan. Still in use today, the cathedral dates back to 1521 and was operated by Europeans as they imposed Catholicism on Taíno (Puerto Rico’s indigenous community) and enslaved Africans. Today, part of the church–a former covenant–has been made into a boutique hotel and is home to the archbishop of San Juan, Roberto González Nieves.
